Having never been involved with journalism, I knew there would be a lot to learn about making a living as a freelance journalist. I searched for suitable courses and The Professional Freelance Journalism Course provided by the Morris Journalism Academy seemed to be the one for me.

The course provided insight from industry professionals on what editors look for. It was hands-on and developed by professional journalists. It would also allow me to complete it at my own pace by correspondence. Every tutorial left me feeling motivated and inspired. It answered every question I had about entering the world of freelance journalism.

My tutor, and anyone I dealt with from the Academy, were quick to respond to any query I had and were always encouraging. Each assignment I handed in, I received pages of feedback from my tutor on what did and didn’t work. It was invaluable to be guided by a tutor, and industry expert, who has practical experience and knows what it takes to succeed.

The course was not only fun, it also provided a wealth of useful information. Before I started the course, I thought I didn’t need to learn how to write, I just need some help with the marketing and pitching side of freelance journalism. I ended up learning much more than I anticipated: how to keep coming up with article ideas, how to pitch ideas to editors, how to write as a journalist, how to create a portfolio, how to conduct interviews and the list goes on.

Now that I have graduated from the course, I plan to work as a freelance writer. I am forever grateful to the Morris Journalism Academy for providing me the skills for building my freelance writing career.
