As I was studying it was like the words were falling off the pages and becoming a reality, pretty much everything the course said came true.

The Morris Journalism Academy’s (MJA) Freelance Journalism Course helped me create a new career in my two creative loves – writing and photography.

Moving from 15 years in television commercial production, I searched for a relevant online course and MJA was a clear standout for money, value, wide range of topics and big name publications backing and contributions.

The course gave me the confidence (and the homework) to write my first newspaper article which was published immediately in my local paper the Surf Coast Times.  Two weeks later the editor contacted me to see if I’d like to work for them.  I’m now a regular freelance photo journalist/contributor for a major local paper, multiple magazine publication companies and multiple surfing magazines. I also work for several local businesses creating media releases, website content, and managing social media.

As I was studying it was like the words were falling off the pages and becoming a reality, pretty much everything the course said came true.

I still work in television production once a month, but the majority of my work comes from writing and taking photographs. This is my true love.  It allows me to work from home, working the hours that suit my lifestyle and my young family.

I can highly recommend this course to anyone who has the self-motivation to chase the spark to inflame your creativity. I’m truly stoked to be published, (most times being paid for it) and best of all, having people congratulate me or react positively to my work.
