Every day I use skills learnt during the course, whether it’s writing media releases, brochures, funding applications, flyers, posters or updating the company’s website.

I’ve always had a passion for writing but never had the knowledge or drive to get my work published. The Morris Journalism Academy changed all of that, giving me the skills and confidence to make writing for a living a reality.

I found the correspondence style of teaching, flexibility of study hours and option of extending this journalism course duration allowed me to complete the course around my full time work.

Positive, supportive and helpful feedback from my tutor, along with useful suggestions, inspired me to consider new and unique angles for my writing. Engaging in this journalism course expanded my mind, encouraged lateral thinking and gave me the boost to change the direction of my career.

Every day I use skills learnt during the course, whether it’s writing media releases, brochures, funding applications, flyers, posters or updating the company’s website. I also research, write and edit the company newsletter, keeping community members, funders and supporters abreast of projects and upcoming activities. I have written articles about the company’s activities for industry magazines and newsletters and am currently coordinating and writing copy for the company’s annual report.

Outside of work, I have had articles on my travels to Mongolia published in The Age newspaper in Melbourne.

The course has taught me to think laterally. I plan on reviewing horse-treks for outdoor adventure magazines, exploring the connection between Shamanism and Buddhism for a new age publication, and writing about the environmental advantages of building and living in a traditional Mongolian dwelling.

Plans for my future involve combining my writing and graphic design skills to set up my own business, offering clients a range of creative services such as brochure creation, advertisement writing, website copy and design, press releases, copywriting, promotional materials and report writing.

I would highly recommend this journalism course to anyone looking to live the dream of writing for a living. You’ll never know what you’re capable of, or are missing out on, until you get out there and give it a go. The Morris Journalism Academy’s Professional Freelance Journalism Course is the perfect step to help you on your way!
